How to Highball

The days of over complicated cocktails are over. We’re welcoming back the highball, a drink very close to CAPI’s heart. Simple and uncomplicated, it puts the spirit and the mixer at centre stage. Because its simplicity, it’s important to make sure each element is spot on. Here’s a few tips:

The Glass
The highball is about quality, not quantity, so keep your glass on the small side. Anything from 12oz (355ml) to 8oz (235ml) is perfect. By keeping your glass small means you can finish your drink before the ice melts and the bubbles burst. You could also take it up a notch and have your glass chilled before serving. 

Ice
Ice makes or breaks a drink, so don’t skimp! A warm highball is worse than no highball. You don’t have to pack the glass, but be generous.

Booze
Cheap and cheerful booze has no place here. You’re giving booze a place to shine, so don’t skimp. But, don’t head straight to the top, that’s the stuff for drinking neat. Try some of the local distilleries, they’re in the mix here at CAPI HQ.

Mixers
Of course we recommend CAPI mixers for your highballs! But we also recommend you serve them chilled. So, keep them in the fridge or on ice before serving.

Ratio
We like our highballs, 2 parts mixer to 1 part booze.
